STAV 2010
MC Q6
"It is most likely that, as a result of this operation, Marie (her corpus callosum is severed) will
C. have two separate, independently operating brains
D. be less able to transfer information between the left side and right side of her brain

ANSWER: D

Okay... I thought it would be C

2006 Assessment Report
"There was also widespread misunderstanding of the fact that the corpus callosum is not the ONLY connection between hemispheres."
--> misunderstanding that it is the only connection or is not?

Sorry, all these exam papers are confusing my thinking  :)

There are of course, other neurons connecting the two cerebral hemispheres together, however the corpus callosoum is the main pathway between the two hemispheres. I'd suggest that you only think about this idea (that there's other connections between the hemispheres) in multiple choice, or when a question may prompt you to do so.

Yeah I was a bit confused with that.

I didnt choose C though. You can only have ONE brain. That was the first I crossed off.

My problem with D was the words 'less able'. I thought theyd be completely unable.

Cant remember if I answered A or B.

Yeah, there are a few links between the hemispheres, the CC is just the largest.

The CC isn't the only connection between the hemisphere, but it is the primary one. It definitely can't be C though. The hemispheres must be able to co-ordinate each other otherwise you've got problems.

Just think about it.
You can't suddenly acquire two brains by cutting it in half..
