Agreed that VCE isn't perfect, but the problems with the portfolio/interview/aptitude testing is tha you can study for that too, ESPECIALLY if you have money, hence making it redundant as a solution.

Also, aptitude testing doesn't test motivation or work ethic, which si just as important as aptitude.

Also, aptitude testing doesn't test motivation or work ethic, which si just as important as aptitude.

I find this particularly true in terms of uni. Some naturally gifted people are willing to to commit themselves for a year or even less to do well on their VCE, but then they hit uni and their motivation fades and they end up doing poorly or even dropping out as a result of being unable to maintain their motivation.

Well VCE is still probably a better indicator of motivaton and work ethic than an aptitude test
