Pretty sure I'm going to fail democracy.
In fact I think I'm going to fail all 4 of my subjects. What happens then!?!?

You'll probably be put on academic probation, and you won't get credit for everything you studied (obviously) and you'll have the pay the costs of your subjects still.

Lots of people fail their first semester, and it's completely normal, but it also means you need to reflect on your time management skills and study skills, whether you're studying the right thing, etc. There should be advisers at your university who can talk about this with you.

Then again, you might not fail. If the exams were particularly hard, scaling may be implemented. Also, you may be able to sit a supplementary exam where you can redeem your final mark. There are also many people who think they're going to do very badly, but actually do much better than expected. Unless you're sure you failed, it's probably best not to worry about it at this stage/continue to do your best.

If you only fail one subject - especially if it is outside your area - it's not a big deal, but you still need to make up for a lost subject, either by overloading, extending the length of your degree, or by doing a summer course.

One semester of all fails shouldn't get you kicked out, but you definitely need to learn from the situation or you may face the possibility of the university not allowing you to keep studying.

Just expanding on this, there are also a lot of people who think they're going to fail and then don't (it's surprisingly hard to fail completely), so not all hope is lost.

I think you can overload or do a summer course to make up the failed subject... :)

At UoM, if the subject(s) are offered in the summer semester, then you can do repeat it during the summer (January to February).  A summer semester is 6 weeks compared to the normal 12, so you'll get through things a lot quicker.  That's why at UoM, they only recommend people do a maximum of 2 summer subjects, although you can get permission to do more if you can demonstrate that you can cope.

Also, don't worry too much about failing.  What's done is done and I know heaps of people, including me, who think they've failed one or more subjects.  But Eriny is spot on:

Is Democracy a particularly hard subject? just out of curiousity... did you find it hard or was it just lack of time management?

Honestly, If you fail 1st semester arts it is probably best to take a step back and consider if you are travelling down the right path. If you have any writing talent whatsoever it is fairly difficult to fail arts, there are international students that can't write for shit that still manage to pass. I really think that if you can't pass 1st semester, it's best to choose something else to study.

I'm not an arts student, but my friends say that it's just boring and bad.
