Just was just below the cutoff to her first preferences (like 0.1) and now she absolutely loves her second preference and isn't even going to try to transfer.
Sometimes things work out;)

Not that you asked, but before anyone suggests it the 10% deduction of your score when repeating a subject no longer applies.

I wouldn't repeat a subject - I'd just move on and choose another one, but if you did, is it correct that you get the higher scaled score without penalty?

yep. there's no penalty. that rule hasn't been around for years.

Whilst it is stoic to move on and take another subject, there is a huge advantage over redoing something like Methods or Chem as you can pretty much spend the whole year revising. For humanities and languages it may be a bit different.

I believe you can do A lot better repeating a subject. Although VCE is generally understood, to be done by practice etc....some subjects are done well a particular way, to achieve the best possible score. Eg. English language  Vs  English  Vs  Literature

They are all English, yet too " ACE " them, you have to plan your way differently...and to understand that formula for success in certain subjects it takes time... Yet if you repeat a subject, you are much more confident and know your personal weakness' to which you can adhere a path the success.

In my view, and from people I have seen, and heard off, DEFINETLY you do MUCH better!

My friend did Methods in Year 11 and got high 30s and is repeating it this year.

So far he hasn't lost many marks in SACs.

Although it depends on the individual too, some may get bored doing the same thing again. Like me, couldn't bare repeating Accounting. xD
