They put stuff in there that you really don't need to know, to make it seem hard. Then (apparently) they also teach you this stuff outside the scope of the course so you can do the questions, so you feel like you're learning heaps. (Or so i've heard)

ive got contacts with tsfx, and they do NOT teach this 'stuff' that are not in the study design. The company is loaded with chief assessors, hence rules out that possibility. one might argue though, that that individual might have thought that the 'stuff' is outside the study design because he MAY not be aware  that the stuff is actually included in the course.

TSFX 2006 Methods Exam 1 was the first trial exam that I had done and all I can say is that I got thrashed by it.

After reading some of the posts here from others saying that it was difficult, more self-esteem has gone up again. :)

hmmm....1 post from a new person defending tsfx n with a suspicious name. i think xavier1234 works for tsfx. good job mate - but i think ur caught out. even my teacher who is a spec maths assessor says ur tsfx maths exams are outside the syllabus.

Haha, I felt the same too. My teacher wrote it. He's a very funny guy. His theory was that if you know Methods 3/4 you can do everything on that paper. He was right. I mean except for the Lambert W function!

I don't see the problem though..you do tsfx exams, feel bad if you get a low score and study more. Loearning more outside the scope never hurt anyone :)

Exactly; it enriches the learning experience and improves your maths a lot.

TSFX exams are made specifically to catch you out.. They test knowledge, but mainly they teach exam technique :) but i agree, the questions on the biol Unit 3 ones are i am sure, straight from the Unit 4 genetics course..

i don't know why people cliam that exponential question used the lambert w function, it could have beeen any letter , just they chosen to substitute w, It was a simple bit of factorising and wouldn't be suprised if it cam up on exam 1 or 2,

Im not sure you're aware of what the true lambert w function is. it uses complex numbers of which none are required for that particular question.
