You can't do double degrees at Melbourne, you have to do an undergraduate first and then a Masters

you can do something similar to a double degree.

example: a bachelor of __ with a diploma, so you finish in 4 years with 'double breadth'
or, you can do a second degree after finishing your first, and not have to do breadth, which is 5 years.
so bachelor of arts, then doing bachelor of science is 5 years..

Have you considered going to Monash University? They offer Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science and this will perfectly suit your interests since mechanical engineering and physics complement well with each other.
2010: B.Eng(Mechatronics)/B.Science(Computer Science/Astrophysics), Monash University
2011 Sem1: B.Eng(Electrical & Computer Systems)/B.Science(Computer Science), Monash University
2011 Sem2: B.Commerce (Finance + Software Systems), University of Melbourne

But I've heard that physics at Monash isn't good. >.<

If youve done an enhancement study in say Accounting, you can fit Bachelor of Commerce taking Engineering subjects as breadths and finish one degree but you have fulfilled all the subjects of a engineering major in a little more than three years. Im not 100% sure about this though, but Im sure that the enhancement study allows you do to more subjects.

You can kind of do sequential degrees (one degree after another) although this usually takes a bit longer than a combined double degree.

Some students may choose to undertake sequential undergraduate degrees. This means completing one undergraduate course before commencing the second. In most cases credit for studies completed in the first degree will allow students to finish two three-year degrees in five years. By completing one undergraduate degree before beginning the second, students progress through their studies with the same cohort of students, ensuring a greater sense of collegiality. Sequential degrees ensure that knowledge in one area is fully developed before further study commences.

So sometimes you can cross-credit up to 100 pts from your previous degree into your second one, which may reduce it to 5 years.

Alternatively, you can do a concurrent diploma alongside your undergraduate degree or do a postgraduate degree.
