Business studies is the third most popular HSC subject behind English and maths, enrolling more than 16,000 students.

As a Board of Studies officer said yesterday, it’s the right ‘‘pathway to a Mercedes Benz’’.

Only 12 brave students enrolled in classical Greek to better themselves this year.

That’s just 12 students who will discover arguably greater riches in the illuminating play of Aristophanes, Homer’s The Odyssey and the historical writings of Herodotus.

Or is this all just a load of crap, and VCE is relatively unimportant anyway. . .

Hardly surprising considering the education system has never been about education, in the traditional sense, anymore. It's more of a, 'when push turns to shove, who would do more amount of work'. This is shown in that critical thinking or your own ideas are never really examined but a greater emphasis is placed on how much information you can regurgitate.

Either way, I still see it as a means of accessing the upper echelons of society (something I'm failing at). Therefore, I usually keep what I'm actually interested in and what I'm 'studying', for the most part separate.
