Pe and Biology-are they similar?

Hi I'm currently in Year 10 at St. Catherine's School,

Next year my subjects are:
English
Methods
Chemistry
Japanese
Studio Arts
and I'm planning to pick up units 3 + 4 PE

However I've been reading about various subjects in preparation for my subject choice and have realised that some of the things studied in biology are also covered in PE...for example the systems of the human body like the kreb cycle

Would swapping studio arts for biology contribute to a better undestanding of PE?
and therefore help me achieve a higher atar?

Thankyou!
Julia

Well, yes, biology *will* help you with an understanding of PE. But, that said, if you're not particularly interested in biology and you'd rather do studio arts, I don't think you should switch solely to obtain a higher ATAR.

I'm sure (and actual PE students can answer this better) that you can do perfectly well without taking biology, because I assume that the biology components are relatively self contained (ie TCA cycle requires minimal knowledge of wider biological systems)

no you won't find it very helfpul since it is only a very small part of biology that looks at respiration and in P.E from mates' experience cellular respiration and all that is only a very minute part of it.
don't bother with bio

Bio is hard.
Pe is easy

im doing bio this year
did pe last year.

I suggest ... dont pick bio unless you REALLY interested.
its hard and BARELY helps pe.

yeah agreed, i did bio and pe in year 11, did well in them both (47, 49) but found that bio's assistance to pe was minimal... if you really like bio, and were going to do it anyway, then you'd probably find concepts in pe easier, but it's not worth doing bio solely for a pe advantage...

that said i'm basically studying straight bio at uni (and law) and love bio completely... so if you're interested in bio, do it!! (just not for the pe advantage)

I would say if anything; phys ed. and Health & Human Development are similar. One helps the other.

True.  Bio is the shit.  Best VCE subject.

i thought that Health and Human Development was more related to bio than Pe.
Isn't PE more about strenous exercise?

lol, kinda... but its also about government approaches to physical activity (same as health) and that kinda thing... i dont think bio and hhd are that related, because they come at the same issue from completely different ends of the spectrum (bio = how it all works, hhd = what do they do about it)
