What should I do?

OK, so I need a 6th subject for my ATAR next year.

Subjects that I'm definitely doing next year are: English, Methods, Economics, Legal and Latin. (5 subjects)

The timetable doesn't allow for 6 subjects, so I need to choose a 6th study from one of the following:

(1) Melbourne University LINGUISTICS Extension Study (no fees, travel time will be annoying though, and lecturers/lecturers available)
OR
(2) Distance Education ENGLISH LANGUAGE Unit 3&4 (I haven't done 1&2, school doesn't offer this subject because not enough people chose it, fees included but no teacher as it's all done by correspondence).

Which one should I pick? I'm not sure which one would be more 'intense'.

Hmmm. I don't really know what your first option is, although it sounds pretty good. Travel time could exhaust you though, which means my vote goes to English Language. It's a really fascinating subject that I LOVE, so interesting and fun to learn. So yeah, English Language Distance Ed +1

Awesome. Cheesy Would it be hard to pick up without the 1&2? Especially when there's minimal teacher guidance?

For the undisciplined student it could be a problem, but your a clever kid, you shouldn't struggle at all. Plus if there's anything your struggling with, a bit of extra guidance can of course, be found on VN :3

Does anyone know what the workload of a university subject is like?

3 hours a week, 2 lectures and 1 tutorial, and the university recommends 5 extra hours study a week for the subject (yeah right lol).

I would just pick up further. Easiest subject to ace with minimal preparation. I picked it up this year without doing 1+2.

But as you specified between Linguistics and EL, I'd go with EL.

Travel time will definitely play a huge factor in your ability to work effectively throughout the course of the year.

English Language +1

Definitely Eng Lang - it means that you have 2 english studies - so if you *** up one, you can still rely on the other to be in your top 4.
