Bio is definitely a harder subject to do well in, well imo :P
Lotes are also quite difficult.
Ahahaha, a few Year 11's last year at my school got a 50, and quite a few friends got 45+, but I'm not sure what that means exactly in level of difficulty.

From experience, LOTEs require a lot of consistent work throughout the year, but when it comes to SWOTVAC it's not too demanding as you've already got the skills you need by then.

LOTEs get a scale-up of 5 points at the mean.

Not all of them surely? I've seen a few where they scale down, stay the same or scale up by only 1.
Hmmm... I thought all LOTEs had to do that, since it was a government policy to encourage learning a foreign language? :O

Yeah, it's added to all.. So if 30 scales to 31 in a LOTE, it was meant to scale down to 26.

Wait, really?
So my friend who got a 45 (scaled up to 49) would actually have gotten a scaled score of 44 if it wasn't for the Government Policy?

Would it still apply to higher scores? This year for Indo, a 49 became 49.8. That means that without the extra 5 points it would have been scaled down from a 49 to a 44.8! That doesn't make much sense. :S

This 5 point scale-up doesn't make sense at all. This means that the 30 column in every scaling report should in fact be 35 or more, and this just isn't the case. e.g. Croatian scales up to 31 if a student gets 30 raw.

I'm not bothered with the LOTE scaling. As long as Latin scales from 35 to 50 this year, I'll be happy. ;D

It's only at the mean that it is so clear, higher/lower scores are affected, but it's not simply +5.

At the mean, 5 points are added AFTER normal scaling has been calculated. So French would scale 7, Latin 12, Croatian -4, etc. without the bonus

So without the +5, Latin still goes up by 12? :O
What is the reason for that? I couldn't imagine it being difficult enough to have a +12 scale. Or is that just because the students studying it all perform ridiculously well in VCE...

Hahahaha trust me, considering the level of time and dedication needed to get 30+ in Latin a 17+ bump up is justified.

Haha lol, yes we had 4 50s in bio...and a lot of people with 45+, like Allygator...
Apparently the average study score for bio was 42.

But yeh, I still think bio was hard in terms of the marking scheme in exams...even though there is a huge range for A+

Bio was actually really easy. With the amount of work I did, I was very surprised I even got over 40. If I was doing accounting or something with the same amount of work, I probably would have got ~35 tops.

(we also had 4 bio 50s btw, three were from people having not done either unit of 1+2)
