i thought cristae simply provided electron transport chain with large surface area but apparently this
leads to a greater production of energy...

so Im just wondering if I would still get a mark for saying cristae provides a large surface area for e.t.c

That's the purpose of every organelle. Greater surface area to Volume ratio. Best to be safe and expand on your answer.

I would probably not give you the mark because you didn't explain the significance of the higher surface area to volume ratio. Because there are more surfaces for ATP synthesis to take place, the rate of energy transfer is quicker.

But yeah ^ it depends on the specific wording of the question :)

Say both, greater surface area which facilitates quicker energy production  :D

I'd be careful of wording here. In a single reaction pathway, the same amount of ATP will be produced, just if there's more surface area for this to take place it will be fast enough to sustain life.

Yeah, being very strict :) Realistically more ATP will be produced because more reaction pathways can occur but for a single reaction pathway it doesn't change the amount of product, if that makes sense.
