Exactly how many alpha amino acids are there that are used for protein synthesis? I just came across the statement "There are 20 alpha amino acids", but from what i gather proline (one of the 20 in the data book) is not an alpha AA. Or am i being pedantic or something?

I don't think it really matters, but proline IS an alpha amino acid,
