Anyone able to tell me...

How the Information Technology/"Computer Science" facilities at Monash are? I hear from some people they're bad and old, I hear from others they're pretty good... any ideas?

(Obviously this is directed at people doing I.T./computing)

I haven't heard any bad things yet from the one or two people i know doing a degree like that there.

What degree are you looking into taking?

Yeah I ditched for UoM.

I hear that UoM got rid of all their computer science labs, though... ?

UoM offers informatics. You have to do a lot of kind of "weird" subjects. Well, they look weird to me anyway. Make sure you know what you're getting into.

I know a lot of people doing Comp Sci/Soft Eng at RMIT and all i hear are good things. Sure it isn't prestigious as Monash or Melbourne but from what i hear they're not really that great at Comp Sci. It's one of the things that RMIT does nearly as well, if not as well, as the other bigger names.

It's worth looking into; Once you get your first couple jobs, no one will really give a damn where you got your degree from, after those first couple its all about where you've worked and experience. So, i wouldn't worry too much either way. RMIT does offer some kind of industry placement year in software dev though, might be good for a job. Don't know about comp sci.

I can tell you most companies take preference for people with good character/personality/communication skills rather than those who just simply get a degree @ a "prestige" Uni and 'expect'. Doesn't matter if it's your first or last job you're going for. If you've got a qualification and relevant experience, you will be favoured over someone who has just simply gone to a 'prestige' uni everyday of the week; and twice on Sundays. :P

This makes sense. A Bachelor of Computer Science in network computing was sounding good anyway :)
It's just as far as Melbourne, haha. Distance sucks z_z

Thanks guys~
