Selective school preferences

Hey everyone! I need some advice here...

I filled in three preferences for my cousin's selective high schools.. but then I just realised that he wouldn't be attending the 2nd and 3rd preferences anyway..

Just wondering, in this case, would getting rid of the 2nd and 3rd preferences increase the chance of being offered the 1st preference?

If you're 100% certain you're not going to attend the 2nd and 3rd choices then don't list them... otherwise keep them on 2nd and 3rd.
