Difficulty with Text Response

I don't understand the new emphasis in the section 'text response.' VCAA mentions that we have to analyse how the text makes meaning through textual choices.
Is that just for SACs or for the end of year exam? How would you incorporate it into your essay? Does the 06 or 07 exam samples include them? Can I still use them as a reference?
And finally, does anyone have any examples of essays that include such conventions.

Thanks

I'm not familiar with the new study design, but it sounds as though they want you to analyse how the devices and forms the author uses creates meaning. This is something that you are likely to do in an essay anyway. You just have to go beyond plot alone and analyse things like imagery, symbolism, etc.
