addition of ordinates

Question: Sketch the graph of where and using addition of ordinates.

I'm not sure what exactly is addition of ordinates, my book doesn't make it clear. I know that (f + g)(x) = f(x) + g(x) so then what do u do?

You get the y-values of each curve and add them together (don't adjust the x-values).
So for example,
f(1) and g(1) would be y = 1 for both. However when you add them together it'll be 1 + 1 = 2. So, plot a point at (1,2) and continue on. You'll soon realise which ones are the easiest to pick (the intersection of two graphs, the x-intercepts)
