I like the changes although I don't know about karma points rolling on to the next day because say if you dont go on the site for a couple of weeks you can potentially just have lots of karma points ... basically just throwing them away at mediocre posts which does not fulfil the role of the karma system. However I think either more karma for more functioning members or an increased limit would be better than just 1 karma point

The point of karma is to identify the most beneficial contributors (and the negative karma those that troll or act stupid repeatedly).

Why do we need karma to tell us who are the most beneficial contributors??

We don't, but it saves people scouring threads to pick out the useful contributors from the riff-raff that postwhore with useless or stupid posts but gain exposure in the process.

It could also be a pseudo-reward of sorts, if you have a good karma.

I don't really like the idea of making reasons public. Shouldn't we be able to trust each other enough to use the karma system responsibly, given the already stringent conditions?

I like costargh's idea of retracting bad karma ebay-style.

Thirded. I don't see total transparency yet either (for example: can't see the reasons of brendan's karma changes, so that I can judge for myself how his karma describes his reputation).

I said new system TO BE implemented. It hasn't been implemented yet, I want to see thoughts. :P I moved to single figure karma for a trial. I still have reservations about transparency, but okay, I'll give it a whirl for a few days.

Note: I'm not removing negative karma because we moved to a single karma figure.

Transparency is up! :)

Karma probably needs no more tweaks, IMO. If it shall be tweaked, there must be careful consideration whether the tweaks will retain the same goal as this current system does (providing a sound system of reputation, while allowing individuals to judge for themselves whether other people's Karma ratings are justified).

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put it (or in a new thread) but you could make a debate forum. =)

Just because a lot of the rants seem to actually be debates and I'm used to another game where they have a separate rant and debate forum xD
