it doesn't work that way...

who knows how long it could be before they get to a grand final again, just look at robert harvey, he never got play one in over 380 games. obviously no one's going to 'complain' per se but there will be, as you saw with ablett, a lot of sad geelong people for the next few days. and so they should be, they were capable of doing what very few teams have done, win back to back but they choked at the final hurdle.

Wow, absolutely amazing game - especially for my first Grand Final too. I don't follow either side but was just fantastic to be there.

Geelong squandered chances in the 2nd, and the Hawks really made them pay in the 3rd. The MCG was rocking at 3/4 time, you could just sense the Hawks knew if they stuck to their game the flag was theirs.

Hodge and Rioli played amazing games, both in different ways. Bateman tore up the cats with his run, Mitchell was very good at the stoppages and Sewell completely owned Bartel after 1/4 time.

Overall, an amazing game was really tough with lots of big hits and great contests - an experience I will never forget.

PS. Anyone else notice how many behinds Guera rushed??? I think I counted like 6 or 7... Ridiculous.

It was quite an even contest up till half time, then afterwards the Hawks took control in the 'premiership quarter' and held the cats at bay in the last. It didn't help that Geelong missed quite a few sitters in front of goal when the game was still even, and despite getting 62 inside 50s to 43, they only managed 11 goals. The Hawks' pressure was awesome, and pretty much forced Geelong to make a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes, which resulted in turnovers. Another interesting thing to note was that 11 of Geelong's 23 behinds were rushed, that nearly has to be a record.

Also great to see quite a bit of physicality from both sides, something which we don't see enough of in the modern game.

It was really entertaining but I wouldn't call it the best. The 2005 Grand Final was probably the best of this decade despite it being low scoring and more of a defensive struggle. The best out of the lot would probably be the '89 Grand Final. Heartbreak for Gazz though, he looked absolutely devastated and looked like he took it worse than any of the other Geelong players. The feel good story of the Grand Final being Shane Crawford. I think it's terrific he finally got that one thing that has eluded his entire career until today. Its going to be interesting to see how Geelong respond next season. Great game.
