Finished Ender's Game. Very highly recommended, was a riveting read from beginning to end! Although, it admittedly left me feeling a bit empty and philosophical...

I started reading Ender's Game and thought, 'wow, this isn't actually too bad for sci fi' but then got bored and didn't finish it.

After a long hiatus from reading, I have recently started reading books other than those required for school!

So far I've read Stark and High Society by Ben Elton, The Kite Runner, something on Marie Antoinette, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and now I'm reading A Star Called Henry by Roddy Doyle. :)

Does that mean you would be able to do that one for VCE English if you wished?

Not the Curious Incident, as I believe that it's been scrubbed from the English text list for this year. Would be able to with Kite Runner however.

I'm reading
- Adverbs by Daniel Handler (short story arrangement, where each story's title is an adverb, and each are interconnected)
- Blooming English by Kate Burridge (semi-relevant extra reading for English language)

It is interesting. It does talk about things in the EL course, such as euphemisms, discourse features, etc. I'm planning to read "Weeds in the Garden of Words" when I'm done with Kate Burridge's first book.

I think it's very important to have a vast knowledge of the English Language in 2008 for the essay on the exam, because the essay seems to be about your knowledge of language as well as knowing all the required material. It would be good to already know quotes from prominent linguists, etc for use in the essay. This is why I read/watch extra resources for EL.

Plus, I think Kate Burridge is cool. I watch her on 'Can We Help?', and we had a lecture by her first thing this year. She knows lots.
