Debate tomorrow!!

Hey guys,

I've got a debate tomorrow on the topic, "That environmental groups should commit violent acts in pursuit of their aims" and am struggling to come up with any really solid points. I'm arguing the AFFIRMATIVE and have only really looked at the fact that why the only viable option for these groups is to turn to violence and also the role the law plays in this. However both of those points are still rather unfulfilled. I've just started debating this year and am still a rookie when it comes to it.

I know most of you on here are pretty learned and wise cookies so if you could help in any way possible that would be awesome. Thanks dudes. :)

I guess it's a good way for groups to get attention for their cause. I suppose you could argue that good can come from civil disobedience, and that their cause is so important that they should ignore the law to stop worse things from happening.

Yeah, I'm not sure if "violent acts" neccesarily means killing - maybe try to downplay the violence   as much as possible [without denying it's violence] and conversely, paint a terrible picture of what will happen if the enviros don't commit these acts

Also, you could put yourself in your opponents' shoes for a minute, list all their possible arguments, then try to think of counter-arguments.

Specify what you mean by 'violence' in your argument. Therefore, if the opposing side start talking about killing you can say that your side opposes killing, and only supports violence going as far as um...hurting other people... or something. I dunno. I stopped debating in yr 10.
