Art Sac Problem
« on: December 19, 2008, 09:30:52 am »
Ok, here's my problem.

I got B+for my overall sac marks, B+ for my folio and B for the end of year exam.
I went to see my teacher and she said that I got 58/60 for my overall sac marks. That should be A+ easily.
Do sac marks get scaled also.
Do you think this is fair. What should I do?

I don't know much about arts subjects but 58/60 is definitely not a B >_>
Sac marks do get scalled..
You should probably talk to your teacher and ask for a explanation... and if that doesn't help well I'd advise you speak to a staff member at the VCAA.

Hope that helps :D

How did the rest of your class go? If you all got 58/60 and B in exam, then the harsh reality is that your teacher was marking far too easily.

If you were best in SACs and other people have gotten higher marks then you for it then maybe investigate. If everyone was getting near perfect sac marks and low exam marks then your adjusted sac mark is correct.

thanks for all your replies.
yeah i've been really considered about my sac marks.
There was only 4 people in my class and i believe that all the other people didn't get really good marks like mine.

Were you the top of your class? Did you also get the highest mark in the exam? If so, your sac grade is correct.

4 people in your class (i'm assuming there wasn't any other art classes)? Because, wouldn't that mean you would have been "ranked" against another school due to low enrollment - and hence, potentially not been the number 1 student in your cohort?

Also, do you know if VCAA came to your school and assessed your folios? I know that only 5% of all A+ folios remain at that level after auditing - which is crazy!

Your SAC marks do get scaled in art.. My SAC marks before the exam were an overall 88%, so an A, but my GAs ended up A+, A+, A (43). I was top of my class and outperformed others on my exam, so I guess they were adjusted accordingly. It's basically as others have said - you need to take into account how well the other students did, as well as your exam mark. Or it simply could just be that your teacher marked way too easily.

yeah, my teacher actually gave me an A but the examiners had to come in and they changed it to a B+. I was really shattered when my teacher told me. I also don't think my teacher is a easy marker as she marked properly and doesn't have favourites.
So, are you all saying that i shouldn't worry and that a call to VCAA would be useless?
thanks

Not entirely useless. Call them if you'd like to know the reason why they altered your mark during the year, not to complain; because I think that'd be useless, as you were informed that your mark was changed to a B+ during the year..
