iirc secondary schools got extra computers for this promise thing.

Because you know, a computer is so much more valuable than a teacher. >.<

A computer (or more specifically, the internet) is a valuable learning tool. Don't underestimate how useful computers actually are. The internet contains a wealth of information, and makes self-learning and research a hell of a lot easier.

Whilst quality teachers are essential, I believe access to the internet is essential now as well.

Can't afford heaps of quality books? You can find the same information on the internet on a variety of websites. Unable to purchase and access educational videos? There's plenty of free ones floating around the internet. Don't have access to newspapers? You can view many of the news articles online. Etc.

Yeah, I meant that in jest... I do realise how ubiquitous the internet is nowadays.

From my experience, plumping kids infront of computers at schools is a massive procrastination and time wasting exercise.

That is true.

When I did accounting, our doubles were in the computer room. We spent about 5 minutes doing exercises, and the rest on wikipedia or some other site.
