Is it possible to reduce the size of body parts, like hands? Would the surgery have any lasting side-effects?

You can get leg lengthening to make you taller, although it is an exceptionally painful, lengthy and costly exercise

It's an interesting thought, but I wouldn't think so

The first thing you would have to do is increase the size of the frame of your hand (bones), but the bones in your hand are in proportion to the muscle attached to them, and you can't really increase muscle size artificially, not to mention the very delicate nerve supply to your hand, plus the skin on your hand is quite tight on one side.

If you disturbed any of these factors then you'd lose alot of functionality on the hand, which is not something you want, so it's not practical at all, haha

Interesting point is that ortho and plastics fight over who should operate on hands, and i think it varies from state to state as to what kind of surgeon would operate in your hand

Dexter: does the pain occur within a finite process, or long after the operating is finished?

Leg lengthening (well the method i'm familiar with) is a slow, progressive procedure as the bones in the lower leg are broken and each end of the two bones are attached to a frame, over the course of months, the frame will periodically be adjusted to pull the ends of the bone further apart, encouraging the growth of new tissue in the space

The growth of the surrounding tissue is limited so the maximum gain is about 10 cm

So yeh, alot of pain for really, a little gain

It does sound drastic and might not change my feelings in the long term. But if I'm desperate, I might just try it.

hmmm, was wondering if you could reduce hand size without altering bone structure. Pity Dexter jetted outta here on flight BA22
