Because it's not connecting to the router itself, and there's quite a few reasons why this might happen. You sure you got the right type of LAN cable?

Can you do the following:

- Go to Run
- Type in 'cmd' to get into the Command Prompt
- Type 'ipconfig' into the prompt and screen dump it for us.

its the d-link router! i exchanged it and got a netgear instead! works like a charm now
