Graphing by addition of ordinates

Hi can someone explain to me what this is and how to graph it.
eg: f:[-2, oo) -> R , f(x) = Root x+2   + x using addition of ordinates.

Just break up the equation into two sections and add all the y values of y=x with the y values of f(x) = Root x+2.
