Is Physics required for Graduate Medicine?

Im doing Science now and was planning to transfer to Biomed after first year, and finally aim to get into Medicine.

On AAD, I had an appointment with the student adviser and she told me I didnt need Physic unless I wanted to do optometry. Then I thought, Physics is one of the core subjects in first year Biomed, and if Im not wrong, 2nd and 3rd year. Isnt Biomed the pathway to grad med? Which means grad med requires Physics? Also, GAMSAT requires the knowledge of Physics (VCE level I think).

So my options are:

Dont do Physics, finish BSc, do GAMSAT and aim for Medicine.

OR

Do Physics, aim to transfer to BBiomed, do GAMSAT, then Medicine

So, my question is, do I really need Physics for Medicine?

Only first year, semester 2 (or so to my knowledge).

Technically yes - but that's only due to 3 subjects which Biomedicine students are required to take to meet the prerequisites. I can't remember exactly what they are, but I recall anatomy as being one of the prerequisites.
Staying in BSci means you have to make sure you meet the prerequisites. Your call

To my knowledge - to do the GAMSAT, yes. However, there might be physics integrated in the prerequisite studies. I haven't studied them (obviously) so I wouldn't have a clue as of yet.

You got the same chances of getting into med via biomed or science. So dont worry about transerring between faculties. So I am not sure what you mean by doing physics and trasnferring into biomed.

As far as the booklets say, bio and chem are necessary for Grad medicine. Physics is not,Its only used as a complementary subject. So not doing physics is not going to affect your chances of getting in, as its not a definite pre-req, but it helps to know that stuff.

Yeh, actually physics is tested on the GAMSAT. So while its not a pre-req in terms of your GPA and your subjects selection in your 1st 3 years of uni to get into post grad, u need to know some parts of it for the GAMSAT.

I've heard that whilst the Chemistry and Biology is of a 1st or 2nd year university standard, the physics component is often taken as a joke really and it's equivalent to about VCE level. If you want more information on graduate level Medicine, try looking here and here since I don't think there's anyone on this board too familiar with the whole GAMSAT and graduate medicine process.

I asked the Med department, they said if I wanted to transfer to Biomed, I need Physics - Physics is done in first year Biomed...

just do the 3 subjects required for graduate medicine and have fun getting higher marks than the other kids in BSc in the other subjects.
