The metamorphosis by Kafka is amazing! Favorite book would have to be either The Catcher in the Rye, Animal Farm or Jude the Obscure.

Ooooh, I absolutely adore Animal Farm.  Orwell is a genius.  :p

Currently wading through James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man... and A Clockwork Orange.

It's kinda confusing reading two novels at once! Any recommendations on what I should read next? (I have like 3gb of ebooks on my computer lol)

I loved The Lovely Bones and The Notebook (the novel, not the movie)

Go read Lolita if you haven't.  :p

Animal Farm is the bomb.

I studied the Russian Revolution, and the connections were so intelligent and well thought of!!!
I really think this book is a MUST for any class teaching History, especially in years 7-10 (not necessarily VCE), it can make people understand communism, and the events which shaped the century.

Is turning a book into an "educational tool" evil of me =(

I'm sorry =(

I studied Animal Farm for year 10 english as well which was ok since I read it a few years earlier and I was able to appreciate it way more because of the connections to the Russian Revolution which I didn't exactly grasp the first time. Anyway, the other classes got to watch the cartoon while my class watched the live action movie which made it so hard for me to take the book seriously again. I don't get why the pigs had to froth at the mouth and dribble saliva everywhere 24/7.

I'm about halfway through 1984 and I think it's way more interesting than Animal Farm. Well as long as you get through the first few chapters which I was unable to do for years until now because our school has decided to teach it again for year 12.

I know right. Like I wouldn't even know where to begin when it comes to pointing out why Twilight is misogynistic and downright creepy a billion times inferior to Harry Potter.

And this is coming from an ex-Twilight fan from before the movies and everyone was still rooting for Gaspard/Emily.

Harry Potter is a hundred million times better than Twilight!

I don't really have a favourite book, but if I had to pick one, Harry Potter would rank pretty highly. The whole series is a joy to read over and over again!

I like reading (auto)biographical stuff about people who lived through Mao's China, like Wild Swans (by Jung Chang).
