Commentators mentioned at one point last night that going on previous World Cups, the probability of progressing from the group stage given a loss in the opening match is only 10%.

wtf its nowhere near over.
you say that on the basis of the loss to germany? What were the odds we were going to beat germany anyway. everyone knew we were going to lose today before the world cup even began. Doesn't mean we won't progress

the dream was over well before it even began, id say it ended the moment australia drew group D. if muntari were to play, i wouldnt be surprised if they copped consecutive 4-0 losses.

Australia obviously deserved to win that. Geez, what an unexpected loss.

That's why people are upset right?

It wasn't the loss, it was the embarrassing nature of it, plus Verbeek's moronic selection tactics and the insipidness of our defence. Plus we don't have Cahill for the Ghana game.

agreed... especially the tatics chosen by Verbeek, I thought were strange, as it was a completely new formation. I mean, the formation we played during the qualifying campaign may have boring and unspectacular but at least it was effective and they knew the system. -- to play Cahill as the lone striker was a bad choice as it's not his natural position!
