"PERTISSION" (sorry, you want us immigrants to speak English?)

LOL
Hypocrisy at its finest. I wonder what the pertission is for, ban all non anglo Australians from using public Australian restrooms or something along those lines?
Hmm...next year already. Well better set my goals and all...(raw)

Australia is definitely racist in my opinion.
On the outside it seems quite welcoming with its "love" for diversity but if you look closely, "higher ups" of the country are basically all anglo-saxon.

Why? its because "true blue" Australians don't, and never will, view the minority races as being Australian. So no matter what the minority do, it probably will be in vain.

about the "higher ups" all being ango, i dont think this is racist at all
it just shows that back when these ppl were moving up through the ranks there wasnt as much diversity as there is today
in fact it think in just a few decades our politicians, ceo etc will be much more diverse

edit: this is the same in almost any country, i think its actually easier for a non anglo to do well here than it is for say a non asian to do well in japan or china

No, I don't think Australia is racist in general. There are a lot of successful minorities.

Most countries will have people that are racist and I don't think Australia as a whole is any more or less racist than others.

"Mate speak english"... yet they can't even spell "where". Sigh. Seriously?

EDIT: just had a look at their discussion board.
"Non Racist Blacks Murdering White Farmers (Daily) in Multicultural South Africa"
"JEWISH SLAVE SHIP OWNERS"
"How Egalitarians are leading us into a new dark age of dogmatism and ignorance."
"PERTISSION" (sorry, you want us immigrants to speak English?)

Perhaps we should pity these people - clearly there is some kind of correlation between lack of education and displaying racist tendencies. The one about the egalitarians just blew my mind.

The national anthem makes no sense. Boundless plains? How can we have boundless plains? The sun does set on Australia occasionally.

I'm in Vietnam at the moment and all I know how to say is 'please', 'thank-you', 'how much does this cost' and how to count. However, I haven't spoken a word of Vietnamese since I got here because I'm afraid of accidentally saying something really dumb and less comprehensible than English. Is that offensive to my hosts? I've paid a lot of 'Westerner tax' today, maybe that makes up for it.

I think I have a point somewhere in there.

Also, I agree with freeing up the borders. We have so much space! We'll have to find more water though.

thats true i think the problem is not space, but infrasructure
people do have a point when they say that we need to keep track/control of how many people come into the country becouse we really do need to increase the supply of housing and infrastructure first (in large cities mainly)
just so people dont get the wrong idea tho, i am all for freeing up our borders

I however do find it disrespectful to not try to learn the language....

Yes and no.

You live in someone else's nation, obviously it's important to adapt to the country's values, heritage, customs etc. But what happens if you have a sick elderly family member overseas who is  incapable to take care of themselves and learn a new language and you would like to immigrate them here under your care? Would you expect them to learn a new language?

In cases like those...no

pretty sure the anthem wasn't meant to be taken strictly literally
