Balancing work and school

Does anyone have any thoughts on balancing work (~10 hours each week) with school (VCE)?

Is it a motivator to work more effectively or does it wear you out?

I'm thinking of getting a part time job at a supermarket or cafe so I'd love to see what you think.

i work 6-10 hours a week and i think its beneficial if anything. its not a huge amount of time and its a good break from school. somewhere that you dont have to think about it. and of course the money goes pretty well.
probably the best way to go about it would be to tell your potential employer your intended hours of work so that everythign is clear from the start.
part time work is never that tiring, well mentally anyway. sometimes it actually feels good to come home from work to do study or vice versa.
and you can always just try it and quit if you dont like it haha.

Throughout year 11 i did about 16 hours a week (Saturday and Sunday 7am-3pm). I continued this at the start of year 12 and found i was way too tired and couldn't handle it so i stopped doing sundays.

You'd think that if you finish at 3pm, it's like heaps of time to do homework but when i came home i felt really tired and found it hard to study.

No money is really worth your education and if you feel that you can't cope you really need to make sure you take action to ensure that you can balance school and work without feeling stressed.

Try it out, if you can't do it, quit or make other arrangements.

I also only do one shift a week, 5 hours on a Saturday. Do what you like, if you have time and desire more money, then do more shifts. If you do not possess enough time, then the answer is simple...

Although I didn't have a job in VCE, I can say that having a job is definitely beneficial at uni.  Firstly, uni is not a bludge.  For me, the workload is pretty much the same and it goes at a faster pace so balancing work with uni and very similar to balancing work with VCE.

I work approximately 15 hours a week and I can say that working does help taking your mind off work study.  It's like exercise, you need a break from study every now and then.  Basically, no one can really say how much part time/casual work you can do, albeit most people say 8-10 hours is more than sufficient.  It's all about your workload and whether or not you can manage your time efficiently.

Yeah, I work about 23 hours a week at the moment and most of the time I look forward to it. Not only do you get money, it's also an effective guilt-free form of procrastination :P

Now that I think about it, you've brought up a very good point.  :D

Since I've decided to major in Facebook, the only downside is that working doesn't give me any credit towards my major.  :(
