Our school uses Maths Quest from year 7 to 12, although after being introduced to the Cambridge range, the Essentials text is much better

Maths - Heinemann (then to Essentials in VCE)

Science - Science Quest (then to StudyOn in year 11 and the Heinemann - Chemistry.  Physics was Heinemann all the way)

English - A few here and there but random and useless ones.

I love my long-term memory.  It's a shame about my short-term though.

Bachelor of Science (Mathematics & Statistics) - Discrete Mathematics & Operations Research

I don't think I cared about the textbooks until I got to Y11; never touched them unless I had to. It's amazing how much my attitude changed between Y10 and Y11 >.<.

Read plenty of newspapers / good novels. It will develop your english to a standard much greater than what can be achieved from the start of year 11.

Science wise in year 8, I would suggest learning anything about newtons laws (physics), basic chemistry (element properties, valencies etc), and I'm not sure about biology.

In mathematics I think plenty of algebra (factorisation) and drawing graphs will help you :)

I don't know texts, but Scienceworld 8 (try 9 if you're advanced) is good
vce: english, methods, spesh, chemistry, physics, geography.
