Actually, when I read the article, I didn't get the question either... I thought it was Kiwi slang... something along the lines of "Are you hot for basketball?".
I thought it was some obscure reference to Germans being awesome at engineering and making sausages and thus being awesome in general.
I had to read the article completely twice before I got it.
