I always thought dentistry was all about the money.
it is my friend
as if anyone wants to stick their face in a old guys smoked up teeth for 30 mins?
personaly id rather do basket weeving or trolley pushing if it was for "enjoyment"
hahah nah honestly tho . some people i guess . " like it"[/b[
but .. the money factor is always there too
Who wants to be a podiatrist and treat smelly feet? Who would want to be a gastroenterology, espec doing a colonoscopy right before a yummy lunch?
See where im going with this? Can you see how this "who would want to" can be adapted to the majority of health professions. The most important thing you should know is, when entering the health field - the job isnt as glamorous as it first seems. But if youre doing it for glamour, then health
probably isnt for you. You enter the health field, primarily for the intrinsic benefits.
As a person who chose Dentistry, although I admit it may not be the most appealing job, for me, the intrinsic benefits EASILY outweigh the negatives. Its alieving patients of pain caused by their ailment, increasing selfworth and confidence, making an impact to their health there and then - on the spot, doing someting that's hands on.. etc which made it easy to see how rewarding the job actually is. In saying that, the extrinsic benefits (job security, money, social status) are not exactly demotivators, are they?
I dont want to stick my face "into an old guys smoked up teeth", and Id wager that the general public wouldnt want to either. But this is whats great about the profession. Alieviating him from pain, improving his asthetics and oral hygene, and thus improving his social life/self value and making an all round massive difference to his life is extremely rewarding.
So I ask, why are you so quick to say "its all about the money" and what purpose does the inverted commas on "like it" serve (other than insinuating its impossible, ofcourse)?
