Who cares if NBN comes in. So what if we get 500mbps speeds. The reality of the situation is, it will result in everybody going nuts and downloding illegal crap. Suddenly the Australian ISPs are forced to step in and actually cancel the services of people who decide to download crap illegally. At the moment, all Australia ISPs go is "I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING THAR" and tell you to stop doing it and you can just chuck it in the bin.
You should be excited for the NBN if:
a) You're rural
b) You want to check your email at high-speeds.

Also, I think Julia isn't as professional looking as Abbott. She will make Australia look like a joke at those world meeting things. (Don't know much about politics)

I doubt the number of people that pirate things will drastically increase when we get the NBN. If people want to pirate things they're going to pirate things.
"Hey our internet is faster! Should we continue buying things legally and at decent speeds?"
"No we should start pirating and download the same stuff at the same speed if we were to download it legally."
I imagine this is how many conversations will go when people get connected to the NBN.

It is probably also important to note that it appears that the NBN are sourced exclusively to Telstra. We don't need faster internet, we need a more competitive market instead of a monopoly. Only with stronger competitors can we get not only faster speeds but cheaper as well. Personally, I think it is too ambitious. If any infrastructure upgrades is to be done, the focus should be on suburban and city areas where the usage is significantly heavier. Save more money bruh

Heh, people are still quite naive. Even though the treasury predict Labor may or may not 'save' more money than the Coalition, it will be the core philosophy that end up taking shape over the duration of the term. The RSPT wasn't part of Labor's election promise in 2007, and this time round they'll try to pass more ridiculous crap. So thank god it's a minority government.

Personally, I would much rather a government that wants to pay off our huge debt than one that says "nah, we're okay, look at America, they're okay. Let's keep spending and save a few dollars here and there to pay some interest."

I feel it's time to abolish the two-party-preferred system.

I was going to argue with some of the opinions in this thread, but because there is nothing substantial behind them, there's really no point.

It's not like hung parliaments are uncommon in Australia, Mao. Steve Bracks started off life as a Premier in a minority government and he ended up being the longest serving Premier of Victoria.

I would say you should be prepared to write the $100 off as a loss.
