What can I put on a CV

never had a job, ergo I have nothing solid to put on a CV.

I aim to get a job straight after VCE but i'm struggling to think of anything. I can't hand in a blank piece of paper. nor am I sure what they would really care about, I did some community service in year 9 for school, but otherwise I have no skills that I could apply to a retail job. can anyone tell me from experience the sorts of things people who've had no prior experience can put on a CV?

Volunteer work

Any extra-curricular activities - talk it up

Any prestigious-sounding awards you got in school

Interests

Foreign languages if any, computer skills

Though if you're applying to a fast food place you don't really need that much anyway

How do you have references without having had a previous job?

I agree,

I had teachers as my references. Although, if you're applying for Safeway etc., having a high school certificate of some kind is already an advantage, considering what sort of intake they get.

Same here.  Get teachers who have known you for the full 6 years or for however long you've been at the school because they know you best (or should know) and give you the best reference.  Also, some schools require students to fill out a form and hand it to the teacher they want a reference form so you might want to check that out.

But on the topic of references, do people usually get references from their employer after they've resigned or about to resign?

I must be really sheltered then, no job I've ever applied for has allowed non-employer references...

As long as you resigned on good terms I don't see why not...

For my CV,
I had
-Personal details (phone no., address, email, primary/high school )
-Emphasized on achievements and co curricular activities (class captain, duke of ed, swimming, stuff like that plus competition prizes, academic awards)
-Past Experiences (didn't have any, although if you can include things like work experience and volunteering work ---> that community service thing you mentioned?)
-Hobbies and interests
-Languages
-Skills and abilities
-Career objectives
-Referees (which was my careers coordinator)
Oh , and I also wrote it up on a table so it looked more organised on Word. I made the table lines  invisible too.

Hope that helps. :)

then what do you put on your Resume???

They're the same thing in Australia...?
You thinking of letter of recommendation or covering letter?

Dedication, leadership, affability, commitment.
dedication/leadership/commitment - ever played sport? worked on a hobby for a long time?
affability - say people like you
