would it be too much to do 6 subjects in yr 12?

I think it would be too much personally. I dont think its worth it for the rough 3 point benefit (10%). You should be able to make up for the loss through applying the extra time to your other subjects in ur top 4

for me, it really depends on who you are. some kids overseas (in highly competitive countries) study >8 final-year subjects in a year and still get fabulous marks, so that shows you that it is more than possible to do 6 VCE subjects in yr 12. i think that with great time mgmt and the 'right' mindset you can seriously do it!
i may or may not be doing 6 subjects in '08 (incl. one UMEP), as it says in my sig, but one would be a repeat if i did. on that note i need some advice...i won't reveal my methods cas SS, but my situation is this: i studied hard and found methods easy this year, after SACs and exam 1 should've gotten very high SS, but exam technique let me down in exam 2 which brought down my SS. i pretty much need 99+ ENTER, and this would be a very easy repeat for me...but is it worth my time? any thoughts...

Hey.
This is my first post. I did Biology 3/4 this year and got 43.
Subjects I'm doing in '08:
English
Ethics (Unit 1 only)
German
Maths Methods
Specialist Maths
Chemistry
UMEP Biology

Do you think this is too much?? Spoke to a few teachers and they said it would be possible, but quite stressful. My biology teacher told me that I would be fine.. Still unsure though..

why are you only doing unit 1 of ethics? if you are not going to take it as a subject, u might as well drop it? your workload does seem to be quite big but as some people have already mentioned, it comes down to you and planning your time well. personally i wouldn't want to do that much subjects because people who only do 4 get to concentrate so much on their subjects and they will probably do better in them and possibly get a better ENTER.

JL, i think u should probably look and sort of gauge which subjects ure doing quite well in n will probably be your primary 4, and see if the ss u can get for methods will succeed that by a lot. just a thought =)

I attend a Catholic school, so yes, unfortunately, religion is compulsory. This is from my vce handbook: "In Year 11 all students gain one unit of humanities when they study Unit 2 Ethics and Morality from Religion and Society. At Year 12 students undertake the school-based course - The Search for Meaning.".. This year Unit 2 was spread out over the whole year, so we ended up having less classes/week of ethics compared to a regular subject..

I need to keep:
English
Maths Methods
Chemistry
I would like to keep Specialist Maths, as maths is probably my best subject. That leaves me with ethics, german and umep biology.. I guess I could discuss the possibility of dropping ethics with my principal/re coordinator, but I doubt they would let me drop it. Even if they did, my workload would not drastically change, as ethics is a bit of a bludge. Which subject do you think I should drop, assuming that my German is as strong as Biology? Am aiming for a high ENTER..

does passing RE really matter? if u just sit there and do other subjects work and hand in half the work half the time?
if u think ur competent, UMEP (or MUEP) is really helpful, as passing practically as a 40 (or is it 45?), and good grades (not best) =50
if you like doing maths (and its endless repetitions), then i suggest keep it. doing subjects you like is really important, but also keep in mind that A: only 6 subjects counts and B: in case u've done 6 VCE subjects, UMEP/MUEP dont count (right? that's wot monash told me...)

*jealous* that means u only need to do 4 subs + RE + UMEP

How many subjects have you done in Year 11? Try to have an overall number of 6 or 7 subjects. If you know that the two Maths will be placed in your top 4, then German would be useful to take that 3rd spot (unless you already have a 50 in Biology 3/4). Chemistry is also a very rich top 4 candidate. UMEP Biology has the same potential as German, except it is restricted as a 10% increment subject, so I would choose German.

Lol, 69 what a great ENTER score.

You don't need to 7 subs lol, 6 subs meets the requirement of units passed.
