The Monash Engineering faculty has a MSDN subscription, so Monash Engineering students can download Windows 7 pro off the network and get a valid CD Key. They don't check whether you're an Engineering student or not though, so any Monash student can get them by accessing an Engineering faculty computer room.

Even if he doesn't have Vista, the upgrade disk still works just fine with a slight workaround I believe.

Yes, you have to install it differently, but there is heaps of sites showing how to.

I did that.
