on what grounds can a school expel someone?

Hey guys,

One of my mates is failing school, he hasn't been in any big trouble... like fights or anything but he's just a general twat to teachers and a bit of an all round dick to a lot of people. The school aparantly wants him to leave, but he wants to stay and so do his parents. Anyone know how easy it is for a school to expel someone? Year 11 btw, and it's a public school.

Being an asshole isn't grounds for expulsion. Tell him to lay low (eg. not get into fights), hand in homework and get passable grades.

Failing school is ground for expulsion, in my school they call it the year 11 culling.
The school tries to make sure that everyone who starts year 12 will finish, and if he has bad attendance/abysmal grades they can definitely expel him.
That being said, if he proves that he can pass then they should let him continue.

On a related and slightly humorous note, a mate of mine got told to leave at the start of THIS term, he's in year 12.

Failing school is ground for expulsion

they do that in MHS in year 9, 10 and 11. A bit unfair as our curriculum is pretty tough, but they are probably wanting to beat macrob i guess...

...And we are supposed to be of above-average intelligence and not even consider 'failing'. If we do we are booted out ey? :P

They can definetly fail you on attendance (i've seen this happen), they could also throw you out on some kind of disciplinary grounds...but i don't think doing shit (results wise) is a reason to be expelled or my school would have like 3 people in it....

Just make sure he's less of an ass to the important people at least until the end of the year

they do both at MHS. attendance + results. but i agree, attendance is weighed more as academic results can improve later on. sometimes they dont expel a student, but 'encourage' them to go by not letting them do any maths, science or a 3+4 in VCE, thats pretty close to being expelled...
