You can get a x6 core AMD processor + other stuff + a godly graphics card for around 1.5k.

This is a build I made for my friend when the 5850 just came out, some of these things are discontinued.. but you can find alternatives. This cost my friend around ~1.5k
  • AM3 Phenom II x4 955
  • Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P
  • 4G Kit DDR3 1600 G.Skill-NQ
  • Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
  • HIS 1GB ATI Radeon HD5850
  • Lancool Dragon Lord PC-K60 Black Chassis
  • [SHAW PSU CUZ D3TR3 DA B3ZT] Loljokes, Cosair/CM PSU ~600W + (depends on what you buy etc)
  • Sony-NEC Optiarc AD-7240S
  • 24'' LG (forgot what model)
  • G15 etc.. optional
  • G5 etc... optional
  • Windows 7 -> He bought this from "its not cheating"
  • Xigmatek HDT-S1283 Red Scorpion
I overclocked it recently, and he runs at 3.9GHz smoothly at really nice temps (low 30's)

You can get stuff thats a little bit better now for cheaper.. For example.. The 5850 cost 400 dollars then... now its like 270-300... thats ~80-100 dollars which can be used on something else, like upgrading your processor or upgrading graphics/ram etc.

Oh, by the way.. this is manually putting the PC together, none of this officeworks shiet.

I hope I helped FT. <3

P.S Mao etc can probably help you as well. He seems to know some stuff etc etc.

If you are going to buy a laptop to play games on and use for uni work, whatever you do don't buy a huge 20 inch screen model. You'll thank me for it next year.

And 1.5k can get a pretty decent laptop if you want to buy premade and save the hassle. I was on the dell site the other day to make a warranty claim and they have some nice stuff. Join the RACV (free) and you get 10% off as well.

It plays at least? Im pretty sure it wouldnt even start up on my pc

Lol it took like an hour to instal on my comp. And it takes another 10 mins to open up, then like 5 mins to load per game....

At the start it's just minor lag for me, then when I build my army up into an average size and move out, my comp dies -.-

I'd build one if i knew what i was looking for... should i just buy pre-made? and lappy or desktop? for gaming purposes that is. which one would allow a better immersion of self into virtual reality. soz for being technogically challenged :P

Do you guys think CentreCom is a good(well, cheap) place to buy computer parts from?
Also, my computer specs are horrid compared to all of you guys.

AMD Athlon 64 2.00ghz
2GB DDR1 Kingston Ram
Radeon 9250 AGP Graphics Card
And a crappy case and monitor. Wooo

1.  "I will use the laptop at uni" is a shit argument. If you want a laptop for uni, get an iPad or netbook that actually has battery life and is light to carry. Alienware is not light to carry nor has a good battery life. (Ideally, 13" or below, with at least 4 hours of battery, or it's pretty much an oversized lecture pad that you aren't going to use.)

2. Anything over $1500 for a laptop is a rip. For the same price you get mid-high range desktop with a 24" screen. Instead you buy a 17" laptop so you can sit it on your lap? Hell no, do you know how hot those bloody things get? It will always end up on the desk, you will dread taking it to uni, and the only advantage is you get to choose between kitchen bench/dining table/desk sometimes.

Yeah was thinking of just spending $250 for new stuff from there to put in my comp instead of getting whole new lappy/pc. Pretty cheap stuff there

Do you really need a lappy at uni and isnt there things to plug it into? my current laptop has a battery life of approximately 13 minutes so always gotta have a wall next to me.
And yeah laptops do warm up your midsection quite well. since i always use it on the couch. Useful in winter though :D

No you don't, and even if you do you won't because the bother of finding a bloody power point will drive you insane, and lugging around a heavy ass laptop and not finding a bloody power point will make you want to smash it to bits.

Ok so what you want is... light + battery life + small for uni
And for GAMING SC2 HECTIC, reckon i should just spend <300 on new motherboard cpu ram and gfx card instead of a whole new desktop.
