macbooks are alright,, but i honestly canot justify spending like a extra $500 for design.

Nah theres Macbook in the house, its too hard to operate after windows has been your thing for like 7 years

Run bootcamp, all Mac machines can run windows these days (since they moved to Intel processors). The result is a windows laptop that actually runs on good hardware and good build quality.

On that note, my sister and I were thinking about writing a letter to Apple (this is after I was procrastinating and showed her some Simpsons clip where Lisa meets the Apple CEO or founder.. and after Woolies invited me for an interview after having written "Coles" in my cover letter..) and saying, "Wouldn't it be great if you were so competitive to the point that you removed 'Microsoft' as a word in the dictionary etc?" And when you try to add it to the dictionary, it would have a pop up saying "ACCESS DENIED".. and the same with Microsoft. How funny. Then we'd get jobs at Apple in that instant because they'd be like, "You two are world geniuses". Nice.

The new Dell XPS laptops seem fairly good. I had an old XPS M1530 and it was a beast. Ran every game (including Crysis) and this was like 3 years ago. Dell tend to be good-looking and fairly cheap, if you can find coupons that give you a discount. Worth a look in my opinion.

Hells yeah. I also run an old XPS M1530, that sturdy little thing last'd me quite a while, still chugging along.

my sister has this laptop

http://commercial.asus.com/product/detail/38

its quick
its light weight
and it has long battery life

Mm I have the 12-inch model in that series. It's a great laptop for uni. The metallic cover is a huge bonus as it doesn't pick up fingerprints as easily as some of the more glossy laptops out there. The only problem is the touch pad is a bit dodgy. If your fingers are bone dry then it works fine but if you've got a bit of moisture on your finger tips, your fingers tend to stick and drag too much over the touch pad.

Other than that, people say the 13 inch model (UL30V) is the best of the series, although it is a bit pricey.

So basically Uni is coming and need a new laptop and seeing as many would have bought one themselves for the University life, just wanted to know which one is best?

Important:
Long Battery life
Quick
Able to play low level graphics games

PS: Not Apple, its not my thing.

I need some suggestion about laptop brand of 2013, what laptop brand should i go for?

Theres this HP pavillion laptop dv6-3131TX, i think its the new one comes in a black matte color. Its around the 1200$ price range but its got strong performance for its price.
- 1 GB vidcard (ATI)
- i5 2.6 processor
- 1 GB HD
- 4 GB memory DD3
*kinda bulky tho. if entertainment and editing is your thing this is the right one.

As the owner of a HP Pavillion laptop, I strongly advise against this.

Overall they have good specs if you're looking for a pseudo desktop computer.
I bought my HP laptop because I was going to live overseas and I wanted a performance laptop I could keep in my dorm room (a "desktop computer" without the giant box, basically). For me, it has fulfilled this purpose and I feel it was a good purchase. Though given the choice, I won't buy another HP laptop.

In regards to the OP's needs, they're quite unsuitable for university:
1. They're bulky and heavy.
2. It's a pretty good laptop in terms of performance given the price, but this comes at the trade-off of poor battery life. Battery life was about 3-4 hours when I first bought my laptop, but it goes downhill quite quickly after about the 1yr mark. You can use a larger battery instead of the standard one, but they're heavy and because they're bulky they prop up the back of your laptop. Ironically, the larger battery works for me because I need to prop up my laptop anyway in dealing with with problem 3.
3. They have serious overheating issues. The fan goes fking spastic, the laptop is hot to the touch, and poor design in terms of fan placement means you have to physically prop your laptop up on a book or something so that the fan gets air access and your laptop doesn't explode overheat within 5min of turning it on. I've been very proactive in always keeps the fan clear externally in terms of daily use and maintenance with compressed air, and I think this is the only thing that hasn't killed my laptop (I've read a lot of stories online about hardware failure and such related to overheating equipment specifically in regards to the HP Pavillion). However, you can't open your laptop and clean the fan internally without voiding the warranty on it AND to top it off they've got the hardest-to-reach fans imagineble. You literally have to gut your entire laptop to get to the fan. It's like they're trying to fk with you by intentionally designing laptops that overheat but you can't clean.

TL;DR don't buy a HP laptop for university.

Asus and Apple pretty good... Apple products generally have a higher resell value, so that's something to consider. Non-upgradeable RAM in my retina MBP is a bit of a turn off for me, but otherwise I like it.

except that Macs are like double the price of windows laptops for the same specs and can't play many high end games.

although it is very light and portable and battery life is sick as

Wait for OEMs to release Haswell on their laptops. Improved battery, as well as integrated graphics. I wouldn't recommend Sandy/Ivy Bridge right now.

Apparently the new Macbook Air 13" has around 9 hours of battery life, while the 15" is close to 12 hours. This is Haswell. Of course, these figures were released from Apple themselves, but I'd recommend notebookcheck.net before deciding on whether a not a certain notebook is worth the purchase.

Brands generally don't matter, and they primarily differ in terms of warranty and service. Choose a laptop that would fit your requirements, then check a review on it.
