I don't like HTC's. I think it's a psychological thing.

Choice of 'smartphone' is often reflective of one's political worldview:

"Does this surprise anyone? New research shows that your choice of smartphone reflects your political persuasion: Left-wingers, it seems, favour the iPhone - while those on the Right prefer BlackBerrys. The research by CALinnovates.org is based on a poll of 600 Californian voters in the state’s gubernatorial election, which decides later this year who will replace Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2011.

The results show that:

    * One in 7 voters (16 per cent) owns an iPhone, and by a wide margin (57 per cent to 31 per cent), they favour Jerry Brown, the unannounced Democratic front-runner, over Republican Meg Whitman in the race for governor.
    * One in 5 voters (21 per cent) owns a BlackBerry or other smartphone, and they prefer Whitman for governor (47 per cent to 38 per cent over Brown).

At Harry’s Place, Gordon MacMillan reckons a UK poll would find similar results, and that Apple, “with its cool design and sleek look, has always had a particular liberal creative appeal as part of its brand.” This compares, of course, “to the dull corporatism of [Apple's] rivals”.

Which is exactly what I thought two weeks ago when I ditched my BlackBerry Curve for an iPhone. It was cooler, sleeker and had a creative appeal. And all those great Apps!

But the iPhone just doesn’t cut the mustard. My BlackBerry was quicker online, more reliable with emails, easier to type on and overall a better product… I was momentarily taken in by that dangerous Left-wing idea that intentions, appearances and promises are more important than results. More fool me."

But I guess that is reflective of the type of advertising that happens in the respective country.

Android, anyone?

iPhone is for people (read:women) who want a phone and want to play games. Blackberry is for people (read:douches) who think they are important. WP7 is for people (read:geeks-who-call-themselves-developers) who want the capability of doing everything (until they realise it's a damn phone and you don't use a bloody phone to do those things). Android is for people (read:geeks-who-are-comfortable-with-being-geeks) whose life is so controlled by Google that the platform is designed by Google to have good integration with Google services.

And I, for one, welcome our Google overlords. I use an android phone.

Consider me a woman then.  :P

I am so over the whole customization bullshit.

I just want something simple, and iOS is so idiot proof and easy to use that I love it.

I am not a Mac Fanboy by any stretch, and I would never buy a Mac, they are ridiculously overpriced and I am not a fan of leopard.

iPhones on the other hand are just quality, and are more reasonably priced than the competition on many plans.

They look sleek, have the best battery.

And when it comes to a phone, something which you carry around everywhere and everyone sees, looks and design is a very important factor IMO.  An area which apple wins hands down.

Just my 10cents worth. The iphone is more "fun" i guess because of the huge apps they have. Blackberry's in my experience can get quite boring, for a teenager/young adult. After "borrowing" my parent's BB for a week or so, i only used facebook, phone, and their "free" internet or whatever it is. Iphone's come with ipod, and many apps that give it more functionality. Plus the white iphone 4 is pretty good looking.

Using a HTC desire now, I feel like a geek with it

HTC doesn't give you that, the iPhone is so easily distinguishable and has way more apps than HTC, etc. iPhone 4 all the way

Got the iPhone on the business plan 2 days ago. Was broken when I got it (it randomly shut down every now and then). After waiting for it for 2 weeks, my heart almost broke as well. Thankfully, the Apple Store replaced it immediately.

Now that I have it, I must say, it is an impressive piece of technology. But its usefulness is restricted by Steve Jobs control freakiness.

iphone 4 hands down.
i love my iphone, its so simple and can do pretty much everything youd want a phone to do - millions of applications, etc.
(had the same iphone for almost 2 years now, so getting an iphone 4 soon)

This really should be a iPhone vs. Samsung Galaxy S vs. HTC Desire HD thread.

Blackberry is finished... :P

If I were you, I'd go the HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S.
My brother just got the desire, and I got his hand-me-down iphone 3gs. Desire is so much more awesome by a LOOOOONG shot (or maybe it's the IT nerd in me LOVING the customisability and widgets, etc.)
But anyway, if you get an iphone go for a 3gs over an iphone 4 - way cheaper and almost the same in terms of functionality. Also, google "antennagate".
I won the GAT: 49/50/50.
