Inheritance by Hannie Rayson is also a good play.

I haven't looked at that one. I've only studied Hotel Sorrento by Hannie Rayson. It was great.

We did Hotel last year as well...

"It's really very beautiful isn't it. It grows on you I think"
"Othello is dreadfully overwritten"

As I am familiar with Sorrento I liked the setting and the descriptions of the place...

It was a good play, but I think at times too melodramatic... - the movie I watched out of curiosity - it verges on soap opera

Nevertheless it had a few fantastic lines and it was good fun to study...

Yes as others have mentioned be careful when watching a movie based on the novel you're studying... worst example would have to be The Accidental Tourist(from what i've seen)... the events in the book are in a different sequence to that of the movie... also the movie tends to leave out quite a bit... So I'd advise you not to watch movies based on a text as they can cause confusion... as people tend to refer to things in the movie rather than the novel..

Anyways good luck with english next year =)

Well done on a 48! That's really awesome!
I'm aiming for atleast 38+, I'm generally quite good at English but Year 12 is making me nervous, I'm quite worried about getting a high score in English. :S Can't wait for some tips and notes for the texts for '08!

Can you believe I don't have The Line yet?? The bookshop had run out of copies, so now I have to wait until I get a call. I do have my other books, though. And I thought The Line sounded good, when my teacher went over it a bit during orientation last month...something about the line referring to a railway in Burma or something...? My friend said it was boring too, but...I hope not! >.<

And I haven't seen the Kite Runner film. I did like the book, though, I wish we were doing it as one of the texts for this year at school.

is pretty much everyone doing "encountering conflict" then?

my books for 'context' are:
the line
the secret river
the crucible (haven't bought yet because it's sold out everywhere)

and we're studying 1984

Hi, I'm hoping for 40+ in English this year.
My texts are:
A Man for All Seasons (play)
The Catcher in the Rye
Generals Die in Bed
Witness (film)

I read your other thread containing English advice and it all sounds about right to me :)
