In addition to this, I'll be reading any context novels which end up in the top 5. This is because Area of Study Two of the new study design requires a written analysis of the context chosen by each school and in this piece of writing, direct reference to the context novel studied. I hope this makes sense.

and a quote to the future:

...I'll be reading the top five texts, regardless of whether they belong to the standard text group or context group. So five texts in total. If there ends up being two films in the top five, I think i'll read the novel that comes in at number six as well (this will be six in total). I'll use my discretion when the tally concludes on January 28 :)

damn nick, do you get paid to do this or something?? u psycho!
5 books!

Ha ha thanks, but I think you might have misinterpreted what I said. I'll be reading the top five texts, regardless of whether they belong to the standard text group or context group. Please be advised that the closing date for preferences is fast approaching. It would be nice to see a few more preferences submitted so I can choose the books after utilising a larger sample.  :)

We're studying at my school..

- Romulus, My Father
- The Crucible
- The Secret River
- Look Both Ways

Our context this year is 'Encountering Conflict'.

I'm hoping to achieve 40+ in English.

What I'd love to see here is essay tips and help. I need to refine my essay writing so that's something I especially want to achieve this year.

if anyone i considering doing paul kelly for the exam, i would strongly encourage it. it was incredibly easy to grasp, themes being simple, and the questions on the exam for it are deliberately basic, as characters and themes cannot be fully explored and developed in the short-form of lyrics. it wasnt even one of our prescribed texts, yet was easy to learn alone just weeks before the exam. if you enjoy music, buy/download paul kellys discography, and start memorising the lyrics. much easier to remember than quotes, as you just start singing the song in your head!

the paul kelly part was the easiest section for me on the exam, and i achieved a much better result than i expected because of it. id suggest this novel if you enjoy music, yet really dislike english

Is it really worth making notes on the REALLY popular (i.e. non-australian) books like The Crucible and A Streetcar Named Desire? Coz there's already plenty of free notes on them on sites like Spark's notes and Cliff's notes.

I dunno, personally I'd really appreciate any notes even on the well-known books, if they were directly relevant to the way we'll study them in our Context...it's really a totally different way of approaching a text when we don't look at the literary devices so much as what's discussed in the context of the...context...and even though online study guides are sometimes relevant, usually they're not really what we need. But whatever, I think I speak for everyone when I say that any notes that get written would be awesome!

Thats stupid. Your school is stupid, no offence.
2 novels, 1 play, 1 film.
One novel and the film are tied in with a context.
Hopefully your school will choose to focus on 4 of those

I would strongly discourage you from believing that "Spark notes" and other study guides are your most important and reliable resources. They are far from it. Study guides only go so far and you must realise that you will need to develop your own individual interpretations and compile your own notes.

Study notes simply provide a back-up, they are not resources that grant you every answer you require. Don't get me wrong, study guides are fantastic and they provide an excellent starting point for any text study, but a 40+ study score will only be attained by those students that think outside the square, think critically and develop their own comprehensive set of notes.

hey good job on becoming the moderator :) , I am studying,

- Inheritance
- A man for all seasons
- Island

and for the imaginative landscape
- Jindabyne
- Robert frost poetry

i think resources on the new texts would be useful as well as the context stuff, not just the texts but also the way it works no one really seems to get it yet.
