Turkish and Armenian People?

Sup OGD,

What's the deal with you guys? I heard on Sunday Night Safran that Armenian people and Turkish people don't like each other and that Turkey tried to kill off Armenians a while back.

If there are any Armenians/Turks on VN, I wanna know if you guys are still bitter over the armenian genocide? I always think of it as a fairly big historical event that the west doesn't even know about.

Also, if you're turkish, do you believe it was ever a genocide in the first place (aparantly you all think it was made up)?

The term genocide was coined following the Armenian genocide:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide

Some countries, including Turkey deny this ever occurred. This is the principle issue hampering the reconciliation process between Turkey and Armenia. There is extensive documentation of this genocide being perpetrated by the Ottomans.

Other ethnic groups were similarly attacked by the Ottoman Empire during this period, including Assyrians and Greeks, and some scholars consider those events to be part of the same policy of extermination.

Just get this thread removed before anything 'unpleasant' happens. Some people take these types of events very personal, not me!

We'll be watching.  Right now, all is good and it won't be closed until we get either:

1.  Personal requests for it to be closed.
2.  Request for it to be closed by the thread starter (if they can't close it themselves)
3.  It escalates (obviously).

Well, Hitler was certainly wrong there.
Hitler not only believed it occurred, but he was inspired to replicate systematic nature of genocide upon 6 million European Jews. I don't understand why Turkey can't just fess up to the crimes of their predecessors, The Ottomans. There are no longer any survivors left from the Armenian Genocide, and so acknowledging it would be a symbolic gesture to the people of Armenia. There is plenty of documented evidence, and there are still wounds between the two countries. Today's Turks have no reason to defend the crimes committed by their grandparents.
At least West Germany began reparations to Israel following The Holocaust as an acknowledgment of guilt. .

I want to remind everyone that denial of a genocide like the Armenian genocide, Holocaust etc. is tantamount to hatespeech and is not tolerated on this website. Such comments will be deleted and punitive measures will be taken where the intent is malicious.

I understand this is a sensitive issue for those of Turkish descent and of Armenian descent but please keep bigotry out of this discussion. Thank you.

I already had to delete one comment denying the genocide. Although it was very obviously just a misguided view and not a malicious attempt to denigrate and debase, so they just got a warning.

Whilst this post has the best intentions, I am concerned and alarmed by this post. However I won't comment on this now because it will divert from the topic.
