EXTREMISTS have welcomed FIFA's decision to have Qatar host the 2022 World Cup, predicting Al-Qaeda will establish an "Islamic State" in the Gulf region in the coming years, web monitors said.

I thought you would've started a topic on the alleged corruption charges surrounding Qatar's bid. Starting off with the previewman voice: "In a world where petrodollars can buy all, one nation, one desire . . . "

I wonder what odds I can get on the 2022 World Cup not taking place in Qatar. I'd take them in a flash.

Me too!

As a side note, did anyone read the article today in The Age about Al Jazeera remarkably accurate prediction of votes before the president of FIFA had even opened the envelope! Seems a bit shifty to me...

Of course it was corrupt.  I don't really care though, because everyone knows it.

And the fact that we received a single vote goes to show that it didn't make a difference to our chances and we are not a football nation.  FIFA realised this and it was game over from the start.

Media in Australia is lost. The world cup will go ahead in Qatar. However, I find it pretty suspicious that a country like South Korea, on the verge of a fucking nuclear war with their neighbours, was seen as a better place to host the WC than Australia. C'mon guys, wtf. Also, can safely say, have never heard one person say they want to travel to QATAR. This is the biggest joke of a decision in my lifetime at least, hang your heads in shame FIFA. FIFA is not corrupt like you guys imagine it to be corrupt, i.e cash for votes. I personally think that MBH's presence is what won it for Qatar.

In general, fuck off Qatar. Joke of a place to hold the world's greatest event.

I know that the scale of these two events is incomparable, but they do a pretty damn fine job of the F1GP.

I agree.  It will certainly go ahead.  They will not be embarrassed.

If India managed to pull off the CommGames, then anything is possible.

Personally, I don't think Russia is such a bad decision. Russia is a powerhouse nation and a respectable country footballing-wise. Qatar however, pure wtf. I think we need to look at the big picture, the world cup can be held in any of so many great nations in the world with such rich history in the game. It can be held in footballing countries that are developing and give them a real boost, yet it goes to Qatar? Qatar will be shit at the game for the next 200 years unless they buy players somehow and get them to take citizenship.

It's just so hard to swallow for me. The game means so much and is a vital part of my early childhood and every part of my life, yet we lost to a country like Qatar. America I can understand and accept, but Qatar, for fucks sake.

I have nothing against Russia having the Cup, except for one thing - England had the best bid, and everyone knows it.

I think all the corruption innuendo screwed them over hardcore.  The FIFA execs had had enough.
