I don't agree with choosing the subjects that scale up. What's the point in doing spesh if you hate maths? There would be no point. Do the subjects you enjoy.

There is no logic in saying that the Asian 5 will get you a higher score. THey aren't the highes scaling subjects and higher scaling won't neccesarily boost your mark.

Oh, and secrets to vce success? I'd say balance is the key. Don't just stay at home and study all day and night - it's neither healthy nor effective. Go out with friends, play sports.... just do something outdoors.
When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be AWESOME instead. True story.

There is no logic in saying that the Asian 5 will get you a higher score. They aren't the highest scaling subjects and higher scaling won't neccesarily boost your mark.

^ five of the seven 99.95's from MGS this year did the Asian 5.

And the two that didn't are disqualified from Asian 5 only because they didn't do Physics.

the top achievers list from the archieve file that's available for download may also provide you with the source of that information

I think the conflict lies within being smart about making choices, as i said, if you really distaste a subject that scales up, don't do it. the premise of doing the asian five is that you don't have particular interests in any subject and is willing to work hard for a high enter. (for some subjects, like spesh, you may need to consider your maths average and put the effort in. this is why i suggest that you Think Twice about picking spesh, and other subjects likewise)

if you show a strong interest in a particular subject, i would say you will show a strong desire to study for it and thus achieve a high study score for it. why not give it a go?

The only subjects that scale higher are LOTEs?

and why would you need the highest scaling subjects to boost your marks(are you saying that subjects like chem and methods aren't really worth your try because they don't really benefit you)? also, why wouldn't a higher scaling boost your mark? (i am puzzles as to how you view the scaling system's effects one one's enter score)
well the limit can turn into a threshold..

amirite?

You only need to finish in the top 20% in the asian five to get the same scaled scores as someone who finished in the top 3% for subjects like mine.

I think the asian five are marked up too much.

LOL I think I was disadvantaged due to doing what VCAA says and "taking subjects I enjoyed without considering scaling."

Possibly a 42 in Specialist or French would have got me a higher ENTER as opposed to getting three 49s. It's quite hypocritical when you look at it.

I thought VCE scores rank you according to performance. If you take a person who gets 5 50s and a 35 for English, he doesn't get 99.95. This doesn't reflect his incredible aptitude, getting in the top 0.3% (?) for five of his subjects. Take me. I get almost four 50s, but still get less than people who get study scores in the high 30s but just did well in English. In the VCAA world, a person can get subjects below 40 and still manage a 99.90. It's unfair.

I never understood the purpose of scaling. How are Spesh kids disadvantaged when there's no scaling? If someone's taking Spesh it should be because they're good at Maths. The scaling incentive has removed this. Now everyone does Spesh - even those who didn't do well at all in Methods. Why? Because of the scaling. Scaling needs to be removed. Or lessened at any rate.
Raw Scores:
Psychology 50 | Mathematical Methods 49 | Further Mathematics 49 | Accounting 49 | Chemistry 44 | English 43
ATAR: 99.75
