UMAT Question

Hi,
Would someone care to enlighten me on how the scoring of the UMAT works?
I've heard people say they got 86 for section 1 and 56 for section 2 and then 85 for section 3..
Then some people say they got a 60 raw, others say they got 180 etc, what does all that mean?
All i know is that there are 3 sections and i know what each section is about.

Sections have 2 numbers associated with them, your score and your percentile rank. A score of 60 might equate to a percentile rank of 80, so that's where the two numbers come from.

The entire UMAT has an overall score, which comes from averaging your scores from each section. You can also add your scores to get a combined score, which is where the 180/153/167 etc. are from

Hey,
i just did my first medentry practice exam, for section 1 (my weakest after section 3[which i've not spent much time on]) and got a percentile of 73 by scoring 28/44.
Does this mean im screwed for the real UMAT? I'm hoping to gain entry into med..
I finished in time with 2 minutes to spare and answered every question without guessing

There's still heaps of time for you to do some practice, so i wouldnt say that you're screwed.

Few things to consider:
1. You've got heaps of time left to practice
2. Not many people would have done that exam yet - we're only in January here. Those who have started this early are usually those who are really hard working and will do quite well. Hence, that percentile score you got isn't a good indicator given that you're ranking yourself against a really small cohort of really smart people. A better indicator is to look at your percentile scores later as they change over as more and more people complete the exam.
3. The MedEntry cohort isn't representative of the cohort against which you will do the UMAT. Once again, those who sign up to MedEntry are usually quite smart and again isn't a good indicator.
4. The hell; you answered every question without guessing? I don't think I've ever done that.

Therefore; you'll be fine. Just keep working. I don't think I ever got above 90 percentile on the MedEntry system yet I got 95 percentile for section 1 and 100 percentile for section 3 on the actual thing. The real cohort is much easier to beat.

Thanks for the re-assurance, but I just got killed in section 2 ( 26/40 = percentile of 41 T_T ) even though i thought this was my best (seeing i aced a drill prior to this exam :D ), guess i got unlucky?
I finished with 5 minutes to spare, I guess I should work on timing and careless mistakes..and do more drills!

Also, I've been told that Medentry's section 2 is different from Acer's section 2 in some aspects, is that true?

Same thing goes. Your percentiles will change. I had some 40s which eventually became 80s or so. You're matching yourself up against a really small cohort here at this time of year... Plus section 2 is random as hell. I had scores varying from 20 to 80 something percentile. Most of the questions on the MedEntry system resemble what you'll actually get, but ACER took out a certain style of question which MedEntry still has on their system I think. Really I wouldn't bother practicing section 2. You can't really get better at it through doing MedEntry. Focus your efforts on sec 1 and especially sec 3.

By no means are you screwed for the real UMAT!

I was despairing over my 40 percentiles for each section a few weeks before the exam.

In the real thing I ended up with 98 percentile.

Oh, that's very re-assuring to hear. Quite motivated now, actually. I know i can finish all the medentry thing before the umat, and i guess i'll just keep reviewing my mistakes over and over.
Thanks again!
