^^That's pretty harsh... And a bit sexist.

Yeah.. oh and Emily, I'm in awe at how you recorded such a long conversation so precisely!

i have a very good memory -> i know all of my friends' timetables off by heart
and i recorded this on my phone because i am hoping that when i beat my cousins, i can show them how horrible they were to me and my parents! same thing is what they said about me in primary school -> in my first few years i wasn't up to the average standards, and they though that i wouldn't be able last up to highschool, but then in yr 5 and 6 i received unsw maths awards etc. and then they started with the 'oh we knew you were going to do well' act
there was a bit before this convo that was when i was getting my phone out becuase i knew that we were ready for another war to break out!

Regardless, don't look at your aunties and uncles and shut your mouth. Don't respond or think that you need to get a good score to spite them. Realise that what they are saying is absolute drivel and don't get angry at it. You're wasting your time getting worked up about your Aunties and Uncles. Just concentrate on getting the score you desire to get into the course, so you yourself can be happier. Living your life to spite people is no way to live at all.

+1, just tell yourself that whatever they are saying is bullsh*t. The bolded part is the best advice given here so far.

And there is plenty of great help or free stuff on VN whenever you feel like using/asking for it.

EDIT: the quote is now from the below post... (how? no idea)

LOL, don't worry about things like primary school, let it go. Most of the teachers were extremely dodgy anyway. One of my teachers in grade 3 told my parents that I may need to repeat grade 3, yet my grade 4 teacher asked whether I wanted to skip grade 5 as the work was far too easy for me in grade 4.

i agree with you on that, but it is really hard to just sit there and listen to people that are suppose to be your family completley degrading you and telling you that you can never be good no matter what -> very annoying
i think i might end up gettin medentry dist package and sharing the account with a friend -> holding a garage sale to pay for it :P
can anyone confirm to me if medentry can improve you in sect 1 and 3?

from what i've heard, section 3 is the easiest to improve on out of all the sections followed by section 1 then section 2

after you understand the different sort of patterns there are, you will have ease at doing section 3 questions

but i think it is a waste of money particulary due to the financial situation

i also have no intention of doing med but i want to do optometry interstate

What you say does not agree with the other, quite frankly. If you have the intention of going interstate, I can assume you are quite serious about optometry, so why would you not want to get access as much resources as you can, in this case, MedEntry.

i still do think it's a waste of money because you can't be guaranteed success, but i really want to get into optometry - however, my family is in a tough financial situation and that is why i need to consider a lot of factors before commiting to a umat program, as you can see in my above post, i need to hold a garage sale to get the money because my parents are unable to pay for it, and it all depends on how much i can earn

What about going interstate? Will that be a financial burden?

Because, although MedEntry does provide a range of resources for the UMAT, it is still overpriced for the content they provide. There are an 'infinite' amount of resources available for free or at a much cheaper price on the internet that are relevant to the UMAT, and the OP was asking what some of the ones are relevant. So giving weight to financial consideration, MedEntry isn't best way to go.

Then again, going interstate can be a huge financial burden.

it is true that going interstate will be hard, however we have discussed many ways to get around this.

firstly, optometry is not provided by any uni in melbourne unless you go through med at monash and specialise which is much more competitive or got through a uni of melb course which will take much longer but i may have to follow this option

i've been in contact with flinders uni faculty heads and they have informed of the various scholarships available, thus obtaining a high umat score assists in one of the scholarhsips that i am looking at. in terms of accomodation there are family friends i have that live close and have children that will be at flinders uni at the time i will go there (if i get in) so transport is not a problem either -> these are very close family friends and we have discussed with them about accomodation with them for my first year or so, i will also be able to work while i am in uni and i can take a loan. my parents are particularly struggling because of the mortgage and according to the bank this should be paid off by the end of the year, so we will be able to afford an interstate place by the time i am in uni.

yes it is true medentry is not the best option, and i would like to be able to rely fully on free resources, but optometry is something that means a lot to me and i am worried (especially due to relatives) that the free resources may not be enough for me to get the umat score i need

I thought Optometry was available as a graduate degree at UoM? (Doctor of Optom)

Actually, you do a Doctor of Optometry degree, not Doctor of Medicine.

And pertaining to that high UMAT score, wouldn't you want to maximise your chances of achieving it? Although free resources do have some limitations of its own.

yeh it is, but you have to do a base course because of the module -> your also not guaranteed a place, just like some people try to do med by doing UoM bach. of biomed, but don't always get into med at the end.
also it takes longer and i want to start working as soon as possible, but i may go through UoM if i can't get into flinders.

btw to zien and dr.lecter i am considering medentry, not sure yet and chances are i probably won't do medentry but it is just a thought, especially because about 5 people have pmed me recommending that i sacrifice some money now and do well in the umat then regret it later on
