Anyone think Freo will be in the 8? If not, who'll take the last spot?

shame bailey got sacked. He was actually a decent coach but just never had the opportunity to show it with is playing group.
Big loss to Cats was one terrible game, but Melbourne were on the incline. Knee - jerk reaction by melbourne i feel
yeah i hate it when  a club isnt going too well then everyone starts calling for them to get sacked.
it's the media's fault. they advertise it like crazy making the supporters hysterical which gives the club no other option but to sack the coach :/
imho melbourne have a good looking list and can probably contest in finals within the next 2-3 years.
imagine the uproar if they sneak into eigth this year!

Another coach is now gone with Rodney Eade leaving the Dogs.
Will likely end up at Melbourne or possibly Adelaide one would think.

Honestly i dont think MM will leave collingwood well not at the end of this year. he might at the end of next year, but he isnt the kind of guy to go back on his word.
Clarkson will most likely stay with the Hawks considering how they've been going this year.
But yeah anyone could end up as the Melbourne coach, but the board wont want to make another mistake so they should go all out and get who they truly want.

Well MM was on the footy show that he wont be staying unless his new Director of Coaching role actually means he does something meaningful. And then i reckon the CFF and Eddie pressured MM into saying that he wont be leaving EOS. MM said himslef that MElbourne has the most potential going forward..

Eddie is such a hypocrite in saying that he will pursue any clubs trying to poach MM both legally and morally. i mean didnt he get MM from WCE when he was still under contract???

yea Clarkson, MM and Roos are all highly unlikely to be at Melbourne next season.

I reckon it was the right time for Eade to go. He gave it his best and got them to 3 prelims. They're heading into a rebuilding phase and I think new blood will give them a fresh perspective on how to get back to the top. I've always admired Eade. He did really well with quite an average list and really got the most out of a lot of players.

yeah i reckon the main reason they didn't renew his contract, is would they want eade working at the club for 10 years, 13 years? Especially when a premiership is unrealistic in that time period. Primus has made a mess of it at Port. Eade may go there in 1 year (end of 2012)

Why was it time for Eade to go??? what has he done wrong??

The doggies have been ravaged by injuries that kept their top players out for most of this year. Including an All-Australian backman and a brownlow medalist. and Now that Morris has a broken leg, they literally have no defenders.

I dont really agree that you need new blood to provide fresh prospective. John Worsfold this year proved that after being in the top job for 8+ years, he can still rally and galvanise the troops from the wooden spooners to top four contenders.

WCE last year were in the same position as WBD this year. They had a multiple All-Australian Ruckman, their club captain and best and fairest winner and not to metion Kerr, all missing significant chunks of the season. And now that they are all fit and firing. voila!

That's what happens when the media scrutinise a club when they arent performing well - they dont give  a shit if the team's best player is out, all they want is something to publish. Dogs were probably a team who were top 4 contenders and to some premiership contenders. Hmmm doesnt really make sense to me, they will probably come back next season and make top 8. But they do have an aging list.... I reckon they shouldve kept him for another year, at least.

didn't say he did anything wrong (apart from maybe not adopting forward press). But realistically you have to say, well, he's been here 7 years. We had a good run and a good crack but our list is getting old and we need to rebuild. Leigh Matthews says 7 years is the longest one should stay. In 3 years (a contract extension) eade will have been there for 10... he will be there for at least 15 (total) before they have another crack. That is definitely too long

I really dont understand the mentality people have towards long-serving coaches. It all depends on the quality of the coach and how professional he is. Not a preset number of years before the coach is moved on.

MFC with Norm smith won SIX!! bloody premierships between 1952–1965... it was one of the most successful era ever for a football club. However the year they sacked Smith, the demons failed to make the finals for the first time in 11 years and they didnt make one final until 1987.

It's quite irrelevant the amount of years a coach as been in the top job.... If he has the capacity and the eagerness to do keep coaching (with the players support of course) then i dont see why Eade can't keep going.

And i think you are giving up on your club a bit too quickly... some good list management and you guys should be back in the eight next year. lol no way will you have to wait another 5 years. List management and recruiting isn't even Eade's job.... thats why they hire separate personnel for those job.
