What does the ccleaner actually do?
And is malwarebytes the same as antimalwarebytes?

ccleaner deletes temporary internet files, cookies, history, typed urls [you can uncheck if you dont want to delete these], empties recycle bin and some other unneccessary stuff that uses up space. it also can scan for issues with registry and delete those. its a handy tool to have especially clearing out the temp files with one click.

oh woops yea..."malwarebytes anti-malware"

So it doesn't actually do anything to get rid of the malware?

it can by deleting often harmless malware traces that are left in temporary files
and yeah can delete stuff to declutter your comp, its a useful tool to have...so like every now and then to run the ccleaner

but right now get norton, scan with malwarebytes and you've scanned with hitmanpro, so thats good

Okay... yeah good thing I've done the full scan it's already picked up on 3 more infections.

The only thing I'm worried about is it coming back... with Norton installed, do you think it could? Especially because it's already been in the system?

well if its completely removed then the only way it is coming back is if you repeat the thing that got it in in the first place and you said you'll be more cautious this time and not click anything stupid so thats good.

update norton, do the full scan with norton it should find anything remaining in the system. norton has a fantastic malware prevention system, it has this thing called SONAR which is a behavioural analysis blocker and it works extremely well in most if not all tests i have seen it has blocked 98-100% of threats thrown at it. no internet security suite or antivirus gives 100% protection but norton is one of the best internet security suites out there right now, along with kasperksy, bitdefender, eset to name a few but from what ive looked into norton has really stepped it up recently...the free software like avast is good, good detection rates but im afraid norton beats it in terms of prevention and i would go and say better detection (but obviously you have to pay which can be a bummer to some people) but some free software are also good like avast or avira.

just to be on the safe i would post on the forum with the hijackthis log so they can analyse and see if anything else remains but if you do all those things i told you i would imagine most if not all of it will be gone from your system

Haha "not click anything stupid" ... I'll try :P

Hmm... I'll think about the hijackthis log... Don't know if it'll really be necessary... especially after this "full scan" which is taking bloody forever to analyse every graphic of "Dora's Carnival Adventure"... :S

Anyway just want to say a HUGE thank-you for all your advice (and DisaFear too)... you guys are lifesavers!! Hopefully it'll all be fine now :)

haha not click anything suspicious ;) (like a big pop up saying you won a million dollars or a bar that says to download some codec or activex component that you didn't know would be there)

its just to be on the safe side just to get it checked with a professional who knows what to look for in your computer and any other measures to make sure there is nothing hidden. but if you don't want to do it and your confident all the symptoms are gone and did all the tests, then i guess you don't have to [although i would lolz]

haha npz jane!

Has anyone suggested a reformat yet?

It is after-all the best thing to do to a Windows computer.

I still use a couple of windows machines.

My parents had this very problem, I took the easy way out and cleared the slate for them.

Oh, and reinstalling is surprisingly easy these days. You should check out ninite.com

ha well it is the easy way out but i still have reservations (unless of course your comptuer is seriously screwed up and unsalvageable) about reformatting, even if you get those installer programs, i still have some files on my comp that i didnt put on a usb or backed up and yea...i guess it depends on the extent of the infection. if its able to be saved i would save it, if not then i would reformat
